On November 17, the world lights up in purple as we come together to raise awareness about the challenges of preterm birth and to celebrate the incredible strength of preemies and their families.
From coast to coast and across more than 110 countries, millions of people unite in hope and solidarity, and you can be part of it!
This year’s theme, Give Preterm Babies a Strong Start for a Brighter Future, reminds us that every baby deserves the chance not only to survive, but to thrive. That strong start begins with awareness, education, research, and community, the very things that unite us as part of the CPBF Community.
Here’s how you can get involved:
➜ Join us on Friday, November 14, for a special 3-hour Preemie Chat starting at 1:00 PM (EST). This virtual event will be packed with stories, science, and hope.
Hosted by Jenna Morton and Leah Whitehead, this special edition brings together leading experts and advocates for an inspiring afternoon of conversation and discovery.
Featured Guests include:
Dr. Christine Chambers – CIHR at 25: Building Better Beginnings Through Funding Preterm Birth Research
Jaylee Hilliard – AI in the NICU
Dr. Barb O’Rourke – The Neuroprotection of Oral Enjoyment by Offering Milk Drops
Chantel Morin – Trauma-Informed Developmental Care
Dr. Jessica Duby – Myth Busters: Skin-to-Skin Care Edition

➜ Check out your local NICU! CPBF is proud to be supporting 64 hospitals with educational materials, awareness buttons, and posters; helping NICU teams, families, and local communities spread the message of hope and support.
In addition, 20 hospitals are hosting special in-person events to mark the day. From purple balloon displays to family gatherings, these moments of connection remind families that they are not alone and that there’s a national community standing with them.
➜ Be on the lookout in your hometown for the annual Illumination Campaign! Over 40 landmarks, including the CN Tower, Niagara Falls, and monuments from coast to coast, will light up the night sky on November 17 as a powerful symbol of solidarity. View the full list of participating landmarks here
➜ Wear purple on November 17! Whether you’re a parent, healthcare provider, or supporter, show your love for the preemie community and help raise awareness about the importance of neonatal care and research.
