Awareness & Advocacy:
Better understanding and care.
Every year, over 13 million babies (1 in 10) babies are born prematurely worldwide; 32,000 in Canada.
Current research tells us that any preterm baby can be at risk of long term complications.
CPBF is actively involved in national and international campaigns to bring attention to the impact of prematurity on babies and their families, in the NICU, and beyond.
We support and highlight the benefits of care practices such as kangaroo care, the provision of human milk, and the importance of parental presence and involvement at the bedside. We raise awareness about prematurity year round and specifically on World Prematurity Day.
CPBF endeavours to bring the parental voice to decision makers and research, health care, community, advocacy and policy.
To help move these principles from evidence into everyday practice, CPBF, in collaboration with the FCC Taskforce, healthcare professionals, researchers, and family partners, helped develop the Implementation of the Recommendations Toolkit. This practical resource provides actionable strategies and tools to support the implementation of 13 evidence-based recommendations designed to protect and strengthen parental presence in the NICU. This toolkit is intended to help healthcare teams strengthen family-integrated care and support parents as essential partners in their baby’s care.
There are many ways to connect with others in the community, information and education.
