Celebrating Culture, Connection, and Milestones

Most baby milestone cards celebrate first smiles, first steps, and first birthdays.

And while those milestones are important, they may not be the milestones that matter most to every family.

True family-integrated care begins with listening. When healthcare providers take the time to ask about a family's traditions, values, and preferences, they create opportunities for stronger relationships, greater trust, and more culturally safe care.

For some Indigenous families, meaningful milestones may include a baby's first Winter Solstice, first Spring Equinox, first Summer Solstice, or first Fall Harvest.

To help Indigenous families celebrate these important moments, we've worked with Indigenous artist Kayla Butts (@thewildflower_creative) to develop a collection of Indigenous milestone cards. The cards are part of CPBF's ongoing commitment to improving access to culturally relevant education and support for Indigenous families whose babies were born prematurely or required NICU care.

Having a premature baby can be overwhelming. Families are often navigating medical challenges, uncertainty, and long hospital stays while also trying to maintain connections to their culture, community, and traditions.

The Indigenous milestone cards celebrate more than a baby's growth and development. They celebrate identity, belonging, and connection to culture. They provide families with an opportunity to mark meaningful moments while honouring both their baby's journey and their community's traditions.

We are proud to highlight these resources and reaffirm our commitment to working in partnership with Indigenous communities to support the health and well-being of Indigenous babies and families.

Because every family deserves access to resources that reflect who they are, where they come from, and the traditions that matter to them.
