For many former NICU parents, returning to work or volunteer in the NICU can feel both meaningful and lonely. The Canadian Premature Babies Foundation’s (CPBF) innovative Parent Partner Network (PPN) is helping to change that.
When CPBF began 13 years ago, we dreamed of connecting NICUs, families, and Parent Partners from coast to coast. Today, that dream is a reality with more than 50 Parent Partners connecting regularly through our national network.
The PPN brings together parents who share lived experience, learn from one another, and collaborate to improve care for current and future NICU families. It’s a space for support, shared learning, and innovation.
More than a community, the PPN has become a vital national resource, sharing best practices and inspiring new programs across Canada. Members connect throughout the year at in-person gatherings, by email, and through our online forum; building strong relationships and collective expertise.
Parent Partners are no longer a “nice add-on” to NICUs, they’re an essential part of family-integrated care and best practice standards. Through CPBF, hospitals and parent partners can access a variety of training materials and workshops to have their own Parent Partner Program in their NICUs.
Did you know? Parent Partners in NICUs play key roles in:
Quality improvement and research projects
Peer support and staff education
Holiday, gift, and special event coordination
Fundraising and family financial assistance programs
Volunteer recruitment and program development
