Peer Training
We believe in the power of peer support. While we are grateful to all the clinicians and caregivers who helped our families, we recognize that being able to connect with someone who has a similar lived experience is incredibly important.
For that reason, we built Canada’s largest NICU parent support network which is moderated by a group of trained peer mentors.
If you are interested in collaborating on a peer support project, let us know! We have developed a peer support training module for hospitals, community groups or other institutions, that can be delivered in person or remotely.
We also post our training workshops on YouTube.
If you'd like to do an in-person training, please contact us.
CPBF is collaborating with the Patient and Family Centred Care Department at Stollery Children's Hospital to provide peer training as part of our efforts to bring graduate NICU parents to support current parents.
This training program is an 8-hour, in-depth, trauma-informed workshop that is the gold standard in peer support trainings, providing both skills and the opportunity to assess one’s readiness and affinity for this work. It is designed and delivered by facilitators who have personally done peer support work, so they are deeply familiar with the needs and experience of those providing this kind of support based on lived experience.
This training is offered virtually each year and it is free for our CPBF Parent-Partners in Canada.
Thank you to Stollery Children's Hospital for partnering with CPBF to support the mental health of our community.
